Model Context Protocol, or MCP, is a shared way for an AI app to connect to outside tools and information. It gives different apps and services a common method for describing what they can offer.

Think of a standard plug that can connect a device to different accessories. With MCP, an AI app can connect to compatible services without each one inventing a completely different connection method.

MCP does not automatically make a connection safe or give the AI unlimited access. Check what a server can read or do before connecting it.
